We have heard a joyful sound indeed, Lord.
We have heard your call to us
In the dawn of a new day.
We have listened to your voice
In the greeting of friends.
We have sensed your presence
Deep within, summoning us
Once more to gather here in worship.
We come, Lord, to hear together
Your word to us
And to share again in the good news
Of your saving grace.
Gracious God, in creation
We witness your power, your skill
And your wisdom.
In one another
we see a reflection of who you are
and what you ask us to be.
In Christ Jesus
We have seen the fulfilment
Of your promise to us
And the life that awaits us
When we commit ourselves to you
And to your plans for us.
We are broken people,
Cracked vessels with rough edges
And not fit for purpose.
Yet you care for us like a doting parent,
mindful of our needs.
You shower us with gifts
In nature and in our relationships.
You guide us on the path of life
When we lack direction.
You suffer indignity, pain and death for us
Then raise yourself up, still bloody,
For our sakes.
Forgive us our unworthiness
And our unwillingness
In the job of kingdom building.
Forgive us our disregard
For your creation
And our dismissal of the needs of others.
Forgive us our half-hearted attempts
To follow in the steps of Christ
On our way to a closer relationship with you.
Break open the gates of heaven, Lord,
And pour out your grace upon us
That we might see you
And hear you more clearly,
Love you more dearly
And come nearer to you every day.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
